About Us |
Girls at Work empowers girls and women in New Hampshire and throughout New England by teaching them woodworking to challenge their minds and lift their spirits. Girls and women's classes take place either in the Girls at Work Inc. woodshop in Goffstown or on the road at camps and centers throughout the Northeast. 
Our 'at our shop' program consists of ten girls with no woodworking experience at all. After 3-4 hours of first time building they leave our shop with a completed project and a new sense of pride in themselves and their abilities! Our 'on the road' program offers up to 80 girls per day, a one hour project, usually a shaker peg board and the opportunity to try their hand at learning to use five different tools. They all have the chance to take something home that they built for the first time! All programs are provided by trained woodworking professionals using the highest standards for environmental and equipment safety, with material often donated by area businesses. Girls at Work makes an effort to serve low income populations, including foster girls, and at risk girls by aggressively seeking scholarship funds through community partnerships, corporate donations and other fundraising activities. Through our participation in the American Camping Association's New England Conference we have been able to expose our program to many camp directors all over New England. |
