Once the team cut all the lumber, they laid out small ‘puzzle pieces’ to assemble. This first stage can be very challenging for those with no building experience. Most adults tend to over think the layout and may get frustrated and feel inadequate. When this happened with the team, we shared with the adults that the majority of at-risk girls we work with struggle with those feelings every day.
At the end of the build when the group was feeling the pride and elation of completing their project, we asked them to imagine the impact of the successful, powerful feeling they were having on girls who struggle with feelings of failure and inadequacy. It was an empowering and moving experience for these adults, and very exciting for us to witness how proud they were of their finished product. We will be delivering it soon for them to display at their office!
